 Yesterday was the first day of spring. While there may still be snow on the ground in your neck of the woods, if you are like me, you are looking forward to warming temps and melting ice.
If you are feeling thankful for spring and want to give back, here are a few Gatherings with Purpose ideas that are perfect for spring. It can take 20 minutes, an hour or an afternoon.
Have twenty minutes?
- Walk down your street with a bag and pick up trash and debris that has accumulated over the winter.
- Plant a flower in a pot to deliver to a local nursing home.
Have an hour?
- Offer to help an elderly neighbor with yard cleanup or planting.
Have an afternoon?
- Coordinate a group to clean up a park together.
Adding a little giving to your gathering can be a perfect way to have a fresh start for springtime.

 Is there a need in your community for a new park bench, a basketball court for troubled youths, a celebration to honor veterans and military members or something else that could improve the quality of life in your community? The 2013 Gatherings with Purpose Small Towns Big Dreams contest is under way to help kick-start your dream project for your community!
Go to http://www.gatherings.info/SmallTownsBigDreams.aspx and submit your dream. Every month, one submission will be picked based on the number of Facebook “Likes” and the quality of the community project. The winner will receive $500 to kick start his or her dream project. If you enter, be sure to like your own project on Facebook, and ask friends and family to “Like” your dream, too! The Small Towns Big Dreams contest is a great way Modern Woodmen of America and Gatherings can help people improve their communities!
