Party Planning | Recipes
By Gatherings Gal January 30, 2012

The biggest football game of the year is this Sunday. Where will you watch the game?

There are few other times that we have the opportunity to wear our team colors, eat delicious game-day food and critique the most expensive commercials of the year.

Many of us host parties, hang out with our own families or go to a friend or family member's home for the big game. If you are responsible for putting together a dish, an appetizer is often a touch-down choice.

Here are the six top appetizer recipes, in order of views, on the Gatherings website in 2011. (Check out more appetizer ideas here.)

3 ingredient fruit dip

Perfect for a healthier choice, serve this simple dip with fresh fruit like grapes, melon and pineapple.

This simple dip gives a bag of chips a first down.

Artichoke and spinach dip

A staple in our family, this yummy dip goes well with crackers or bread.

Ham roll-ups

These are always gobbled up quickly at my parties. Try them for a game-day win.

You will definitely be the game-day hero with this fancy-looking favorite.

Cream cheese pickles

Indoor game ideas

By Gatherings Gal January 26, 2012

If the weather outside is still frightful, you and your kids may be trying to find fun ways to stay busy and warm. If you are looking for entertaining ways to pass the time indoors, try some of these indoor game ideas, perfect for beating the winter blues.

Snowflakes

With just scissors and paper, you can make all kinds of different snowflakes. Simply fold the paper and make the cuts. After making a lot of these pretty snowflakes, decorate them with glitter and string them together for a festive winter garland.

Pinecones

Pass the time and feed the birds with a simple pinecone craft. After collecting pine cones in your yard, fill the gaps with peanut butter and roll in bird seed. Hang these handmade bird feeders outside your window to treat the birds and create long-lasting bird entertainment for you.

Indoor snowball throw

For a fun activity that keeps you dry and warm, gather tissue paper wadded like snowballs and draw or tape a line on the floor.

Create two teams. Set a timer for two to three minutes and yell, "Go!” Each team throws its tissue paper snowballs back and forth across the line. When the timer goes off, the team with the least amount of snowballs on its side wins.

Sound off: How do you stay entertained in the dead of winter?
