Everyone has a story. In “Gatherings Gal Grills…,” I grill people about their favorites, their gatherings and their favorite recipe. This every-other-week feature will spice things up faster than adding chili pepper to pancakes.

Get to know me:
On a Saturday afternoon, you’ll probably find me: at the farm.
My favorite memory of a family gathering is: Christmastime. I love the tradition of being together and seeing how our family has grown over the years.
The next gathering I’m planning is: my mother’s 65th birthday party. We’re trying to make it really special, inviting friends and relatives to come to an open house for her. (Doug is pictured with his mom above.)
My favorite volunteer activities are: coaching youth sports.
My favorite recipe is: Swedish pancakes
Swedish pancakes
From the kitchen of Doug Grenier, Bettendorf, Iowa
1 c. milk
1 tbsp. shortening or margarine
1 egg
1/2 c. flour
Dash of salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. sugar
Heat together milk and shortening to scalding, then cool. Add the beaten egg. Then add flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. Mix together. Put on a hot skillet one at a time. Spread by turning skillet to make pancake thin. Butter and roll, like a Crepe Suzette. The batter can be kept in the refrigerator for a few days. Makes five large pancakes.
