Budgeting your Finances
Budgeting may sound like drudgery, but in reality it’s a simple way to help you keep track of where you spend your money.
Click on the budgeting worksheet below to make the process even faster. But first, here are some tips to make budgeting work for you:
- Be realistic – If you’re not budgeting enough for certain things, you’re setting yourself up for failure. The point of a budget is to relieve financial stress, not create it. Write down realistic amounts for the categories you’re budgeting for – that will help keep you on track.
- Be flexible– Keep monitoring your budget over time. What you’re spending in certain areas will become less, while new expenses (a new car payment, etc.) might crop up. Keeping your budget up to date will help you control your finances.
- Be diligent – Write down what you spend money on each day. Simply monitoring your spending can make you more likely to stick to your budget. Having to write down the $4 you’d spend on that latte can help you remember your budget.
