Modern Woodmen representative Faye Fish, Newport, Tenn., loves to plan and attend gatherings with purpose. She and her Modern Woodmen members do so regularly through their local camp (chapter) and youth clubs.
Faye’s favorite gatherings are fundraisers. Whether helping the fire department, the school PTA or a community member in need, it makes her feel good to make a difference. She participates in a fundraiser almost every month throughout her county.
Faye is amazed by the number of community members who support the fundraisers, which often include cake walks, auctions, gospel music and, of course, food.
Food served at the fundraisers ranges from chili to burgers. But the spread that receives the best response includes classic country favorites.
“If you have pinto beans, potatoes and greens – that’s what people want most at these fundraisers,” says Faye.
“When you bring people together like this, it’s great,” she says. “They want to do what they can to help their neighbors in need. That’s what fraternalism is all about.”
