Featured Gathering Tobin Mason

Birthdays create a great reason to gather – no matter how old the person of honor is. Sometimes the older the honoree, the greater the reason to celebrate.

Modern Woodmen representative Tobin Mason, Rapid City, S.D., looks forward to his grandma’s 100th birthday party at the end of January. His family will get together in his hometown of Platte, S.D., for a celebration Tobin’s mom and sister are planning.

While not directly involved in the planning, Tobin and his 4-year-old son are sure to play a role just by being there and bringing a smile to Grandma’s face. An important part of any gathering is the time spent together making new memories and remembering the old.

And speaking of memories …

Tobin says he receives mixed reviews about the looks of one of his favorite family recipes. But the taste is as good as he remembers from his childhood.

“People see it and say, ‘That looks awful.’ But if they try it, it’s really good!” he says. “And it’s simple to make.”
