Budgeting and Saving

Teach your kids to watch their finances

How many times have you heard of kids who get to college, have a credit card for the first time in their lives and spend the next few years racking up a debt they’ll be paying off until they’re 30?

This common tale shows the importance of helping your kids become responsible with money at a young age.

Here are a few tips to help you teach your children about watching their finances:

  • Set up a joint checking or saving account when they’re young. This way they can learn about banking procedures and managing money. Find more about Modern Woodmen Bank checking and savings accounts at www.modernwoodmenbank.com.

  • Give an allowance each month instead of handing out money each time they want to go for pizza with friends. This way they’ll have to budget their money to do the activities they want to do.

  • Encourage them to get a part-time job once they get older, so they can learn the value of money and continue to budget their own funds.

Managing debt is an important lesson for young people and adults. More>>
