Getting Started
How do you begin? By determining interest. Sample enthusiasm by talking to a few of your closest relatives. If they express interest, ask them to help plan the occasion.
How far in advance should you plan? It depends on the scope of the gathering you have in mind.
Will it be modest, requiring a minimum of
preparation? If so, you will only need a few
weeks of lead time to allow your relatives to
include the event in schedules.
Will it take the form of a reception and dinner at
a restaurant? Again, only a few weeks of
advance notice will be needed. Because the
restaurant will handle food preparation, even
less work will be required.
On the other extreme, the event could attract
family members from around the country and
require more planning.
Generally, the earlier you invite people, the more
will be able to attend. (Don't forget reminders,
however.)
Holiday weekends are planned far in advance by
many people. So give sufficient notice.
